JOB TITLE:  Guide - Garden & Estate (3 Positions)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Garden and Estate Guide will lead visitors through the Winterthur Garden and Estate by providing 30-minute narrated garden tram tours, guided garden walks, and estate tours. Walks and tours will include horticultural and landscape design information, and Winterthur history. Provide excellent customer service and be mindful of guest safety and comfort. May include school program garden guiding. Serve as lead guide coordinating daily tram operations, assigned on rotating basis. While most tours are conducted during daylights hours, evening tours may be required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Education- Minimum: High School Diploma with 5 years of experience or Bachelorís with 1 year Preferred: Courses in horticulture Experience- 5 yearsí experience with HS diploma or 1 year with bachelors of paid or unpaid experience in any kind of teaching, interpretive or visitor service experience Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Able to operate trams safely and pass Winterthur public-safety administered driving test. Able to lift 35 pounds and secure wheelchairs in tram safely. Basic knowledge of plant identification and horticultural practices. Good oral communication skills. Ability to interact well with guests of all ages. Flexible and welcoming demeanor. Good customer service skills. Able to work some weekends, some weekdays, and some holidays; flexible schedule. Valid driverís license with defensive driving certification. Understanding of Winterthur history and gardenís design. Able to participate in 90-minute walks. Able to drive trams in the evening. Preferred: Has an excellent understanding of landscape design, plant materials and horticulture. Work Schedule- This position is subject to peaks and valleys of visitor demand. Busiest months are April, May, and December. Fair-share of weekend and holiday work is required. Work hours are minimal in January, February, and during inclement weather conditions. Work is usually performed during the hours of 9:00 am -5:00 pm primarily outside. Must be available to work some holidays and peak-demand assignments including New Year's Day, Good Friday, Mother's/Father's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day weekend, day after Thanksgiving, 12/24, 12/26, 12/31. Occasional evening assignments are available. Will work between 250 and 600 hours per year, minimum of 200 hours per year

JOB TITLE:  Visitor Services Asst, WIT

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Will provide phone information regarding Winterthur exhibitions, tours, tour packages, membership and other information related to Winterthur, and will process and sell tickets for Winterthur tours and programs using excellent customer service phone skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Minimum education: High School Diploma or equivalent degree. Minimum knowledge/skills: Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills. Must be able to understand and apply a large level of detailed information as well as accurately utilize basic math skills. Computer skills required, including successfully completing Basic assessment testing in Outlook and ability to learn ticketing system is essential. Must be willing to work holidays, and extended hours and have a flexible schedule. Minimum experience: 1-3 years of phone reservation and customer service experience.

JOB TITLE:  Sales Associate, Part-time Temporary Oct 1-Jan 7

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides key, critical, and personal contact with customers in order to assure a high level of satisfaction, loyalty and repeat business. He/she contributes to the financial success of the store by learning about how the merchandise is related to Winterthur and working with the sales staff in selling and servicing the merchandise needs of customers at a pre-eminent level.

JOB TITLE:  Conservation Assistant - Paper & Library Materials

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library seeks a Conservation Assistant to support the Paper and Library Materials Conservation Labs. Working under the supervision of the Paper Conservator and the Book & Library Conservator, the Conservation Assistant will design, construct, and assemble cradles, mounts, mats, and frames in preparation for exhibition and loan of a wide range of works of art on paper and library materials. A key function of this position requires the ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines efficiently. Further position responsibilities include performing conservation stabilization treatments under the supervision of the Paper Conservator and Book & Library Conservator, assisting with the installation and de-installation of exhibits, and other duties as required. The Conservation Assistant will be responsible for maintaining an organized workspace; monitoring, researching, and ordering supplies for exhibition preparation; and documenting their work with accurate record keeping. The Conservation Assistant must exhibit excellent manual dexterity and keen assessment skills, as well as exercise sound judgment when handling, treating, and mounting fragile collection materials. An aptitude for creative problem solving grounded in a solid understanding of conservation theory and practice is essential. This position also requires the ability to communicate clearly, coordinate work effectively, and remain flexible and patient while working with a collaborative team of conservators, curators, library staff, art handlers, exhibit designers, and other staff in a dynamic museum and library environment. This is a part time position at 3 days/week.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Applicants must have a bachelorís degree with coursework related to art and/or book history and/or material culture studies, and either studio art courses or work experience demonstrating well-developed hand skills. Applicants should also have prior experience in a cultural institution or comparable setting handling works of art on paper and/or rare library materials. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software applications. Preferred Qualifications: Experience preparing works of art on paper and library/archival materials for exhibition is preferred. Formal or on-the-job training in book and paper conservation, printmaking, and/or bookbinding are also preferred.
